Is my Lab's cryptorchid neuter incision normal 1 week after surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 6 months and 26 days old | 43 lbs

My 6 month old Lab got cryptorchid surgery/neutered. Today is 1 week after the surgery and the picture was taken today. Does it look normal or should I be concerned ? Im assuming the darkness is dry blood? Not sure if I should take him back to the vet. He’s eating/drinking/trying to play and seems fine but the incision itself I think looks awful. Also not sure what to expect as I’ve never had a dog before.

Unfortunately it’s difficult to tell based on this picture - while this could be normal the darker areas might also be signs of infection. I think it would be best to recheck with the vet who performed the surgery in person. If Buster has not been wearing an e-collar I would definitely recommend putting one on to prevent damage to the incision.
