Hello...my puppy was suffering from diarreah....little amount of blood was also commimg out in his poop.after giving him medicines now he is okay...but still small amount of light blood is present in his poop...which is very less than before. My question is that with passing of time...will he be okay....how much time generally does it take to recover fully frm diarreah. Also he is running around absolutely fine..and eats well. Will he be ok soon??pic of his poop which has small amount of blood

If you are seeing continuing blood, this likely means Togi is not completely normal yet. Dogs should not have blood in their stool. Togi should be examined by the veterinarian. Ask about parasite testing (both worms and protozoal). I'm not sure what medication he had but pets are often given and antibiotic and a probiotic as well as a bland diet if bacteria is suspected. Sometimes a special diet is used (a hydrolyzed protein) if a food allergy is suspected but typically food allergy does not cause bleeding in the gut. Lastly, your veterinarian may want to have an x-ray to look for a foreign object in the intestines. I hope this helps and that they figure out the cause quickly.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear and see that Maximus is having problems. It's hard to tell from the pictures if that is blood or something else. Certainly, if you keep seeing what appears to be blood, you would want to get him checked out by your vet. They can perform an exam, run a fecal test for parasites (worms), and perform other tests to see what the problem is. Certainly dietary indiscretion or eating things that he is not supposed to eat can irritate the gut, parasites, toxins, infections, among other things can cause problems. I hope Maximus is ok and gets better soon.

I can definitely understand your skepticism considering your experiences. I have a couple of thoughts that may help put your mind at ease: 1). The worms and bloody diarrhea are actually quite common problems in puppies, so I'm not too concerned that there is some inherently wrong with Puppy. I would also not expect that he's going to have similar problems again in the near-future. 2). Make sure that Puppy was actually treated by a veterinarian. You can verify by getting the veterinary treatment records from the shop. If they are not signed by a veterinarian (someone with DVM behind their name), then that would be suspicious. 3). If there are more problems, then seek treatment from a private veterinarian. Regardless, it's best to take him in for a first-checkup to your own vet. They can alert you if they see anything wrong with Puppy and can advise you on the best care for him. I hope that helps and all goes well for puppy.
