How to stop my cat's paw from bleeding again after the scab came off?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 2 years and 4 months old | 8.9 lbs

REPOST WITH PHOTOS: My cat’s paw pad started to bleed 2 wks ago. I took her to the vet, who didn’t see any foreign objects in the paw & gave her an antibiotic shot. Last week she had an FHO & was also given an antibiotic shot. She’s confined to a small room but managed to knock the scab off her paw. I can stop the bleeding but it gets easily irritated & bleeds again. Currently have a sock on her foot and she’s in a cage. What else can I do? (*photos from 2 wks ago, don’t want to remove sock)

I suggest you try this wound spray and keep the foot covered with a sock. If it doesn't heal (which it should easily if it is just a wound) you will need to take her back to the vet. ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/vetericyn-cat-wound-and-skin-hydrogel ) ( https://www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/good2go-pink-gripper-dog-socks ) If she is licking it or won't keep the sock on then she should wear an E-collar (cone) until healed. Hope this helps.!

Tail injuries can take longer to heal. make sure there is no infection trapped under the scab that is causing it not to heal completely. You may need to discussed surgery with your vet to debride the scab and get new fresh skin and cells to aid in healing since it is not healing on its own yet. You may have to keep the e collar on until the scab is gone completely so she has nothing to lick and bite and open up and make worse again. I would ask about a topical with an antibiotic and a steroid to help with pain and discomfort while it heals and see they have a therapy laser to add to help bring in new cells to speed up healing.
