Why is my dog vomiting, has diarrhea, low blood sugar, and bunched intestines?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Female | spayed | 10 months old

About a week ago my dog started throwing up, usually a few hours after eating. She has also had diarrhea around the same time with hours between bouts. Yesterday the last time she had diarrhea it was clear. This morning she vomited green bile. I took her to the vet and they have done blood tests which show she has low white cell count and low blood sugar. They ruled out pancreatitis. They xrayed her and say they cannot see a foreign object but that her intestines are bunched up, any ideas?

Intestines that appear bunched up are worrisome. This can indicate something like a string in the intestines though this is not always the case. Your doctor may want Minty to have an abdominal ultrasound (which is one of the best ways to look for foreign objects) or to come back for additional x-rays to see if the intestines have moved. Low white blood cells can be caused by many conditions. Low blood sugar is less common and the most common possible causes include liver disease, septicemia and insulinoma. I hope they figure out what is happening with Minty quickly so that she can be started on therapy quickly. I hope this helps.
