Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | 8 years and 7 months old | 50 lbs

Hi. Am from India. I have a adult senior lab RAMBO aged 10 years . He is epileptic. Vet has prescribed us to give 2 Epilan tablets everyday. Since last 2days he started coughing with honking and gagging sound. He is having his normal diet and is fine with other activities. But am afraid as he is epileptic no proper attention is being given here in India especially in my place where I reside. Kindly suggest me. I would be very blessed if you can guide us through. My doggy has great will power too

Hello, sorry to hear about Rambo. It sounds like he may have developed kennel cough and is coughing because of it. Kennel cough can be caused by different infections but most commonly it is caused by a bacteria known as Bordetella. Your dog will need antibiotics to treat this infection and thus I recommend having him seen by his veterinarian for this. His coughing is likely not related to his epilepsy. Hope this helps and best of luck.
