My cat has severe liver and kidney infection. Is there hope?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 lbs

My cat is dying from severe infection that spreads to his liver and kidney. The vet prescribed him low level antibiotic and supplements for kidney and liver. Is there anything else we can do? What is the prognosis? Please be honest. Thank you very much

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I’m sorry to hear Odin isn’t feeling well. His best chance would be to hospitalize him on IV fluids and give injectable medications. It may take 3-4 days to see if it helps. He needs his kidneys to function and it may be reversed with strong treatment. At home treatment will likely not be enough to fix him. There is also no guarantee hospitalization will work but it is his best chance. There could also be long term kidney damage but there are ways to manage that at home if needed. Good luck and kisses to Odin!
