My dog is pregnant. Is it too late to terminate the pregnancy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 18 days old | 45 lbs

So a neighbors dog got to my pitbull mix while she was in heat and she is starting to get a stomach. She is at 11 months, is it better to have the pregnancy terminated?

Hello. It may be quite dangerous to abort at this late stage of pregnancy. Plus, many veterinarians will ethically not be comfortable doing so. The safest thing is to allow Sammie to have her puppies & once weaned, consider having her spayed to prevent any further unwanted litters. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
