My puppy's leg is injured, he's in pain. No vet, what should I do?

I am so very soory your pet has such a severe injury and no available vet anywhere for the moment. There isn't a whole lot you can do to help with the pain besides soaking this area in a Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water bath to help relieve some of the inflammation and also cut down on any bacteria that may develop at the site of the injury. You should also clean this daily with sterile saline. Applying a cold compress (for 5 mins max twice daily) on the area first can also help with pain anf inflammation. We can't recommend any over the counter pain medicine b/c they can be quite toxic in pets and therefore we can't risk it. I would try to do this and wrap the leg as best you can with materials (Tefla pad, continuous gauze, cast padding) from your local pharmacy. You can certainly also look up "how to bandage your pets leg" on youtube to learn how to do this safely and without cutting off any circulation in the process. It needs to be cleaned sterilely, he may need x-rays to see if there are any possible broken bones, he needs antibiotics to prevent an infection, some of the cuts may need sutures, and he will need pain medication. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. The vet will determine the appropriate treatment needed. Please take him into one now.

Unfortunately, this sounds like the puppy is very injured and ill and needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. If there is not a vet in your town, looking the next town over, or seeing if there is a local animal shelter or humane society that can take him in is best. Make sure that he has a soft padded bed to lay on, and don't allow any running or jumping. You can try holding a warm compress on the affected area if you can tell what part of the leg is hurting him, as this can sometimes help with muscle pain and soreness.

She sounds very painful, and it would be best if she saw a vet tonight. You can take her into an ER vet clinic; if you don't have one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Loui's care today! Leg pain can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Oh no, poor Gabby! Unfortunately, there are no human pain relievers you can give her. Many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given. I recommend resting Gabby for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take her out to toilet on a lead only, and bring her right back in when she's done. If she still appears painful after this time, then I would take her into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it.

Poor Poppy! I do not recommend giving any over the counter pain medication to a dog, especially a small dog like Poppy. Many human over the counter medications are toxic to dogs and can cause major problems, which you don't need on top of a hurt leg. That being said, I would recommend you take him in to your vet for an exam to see where he is hurt exactly and to get appropriate pain medication for him. He hopefully just has a sprain or strain, but I would worry about something more serious like a fracture that needs to be x-rayed if he fell from a significant height. You can try icing the leg for about 5 minutes to see if that helps, but most dogs will not tolerate it.
