Why does my cat bite when I pet her body? Is she in pain or sensitive?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6 months and 8 days old | 4.5 lbs

How can I know if my cats skin is sensitive? I’ve had my cat for around 8 months now and she follows me everywhere and sleeps on my bed and beside me but she never ever ever allows me to pet her. I can only pet her head for a few seconds. If I try pet her on her body, she’ll swat at my hand and scratch me, and sometimes tries to bite as well. Why is she like this? Could me touching her be hurtin her? How can I know if she has some condition like that (btw she allows people to carry her)

The best way to know if there is a medical issue causing pain is to have Kit examined by the veterinarian. Sometimes back pain or fleas can make a cat reactive. Some cats also will exhibiting petting related aggression: https://www.petcoach.co/article/petting-related-aggression-in-cats/ I hope this provides some guidance.
