My dog has these blister-like red bumps under his chin. What could this be?

These look like acne type lesions to me and can occur in dogs secondary to allergies or contact hypersensitivity from things like plastic food bowls. A skin growth or insect bite might be another possibility. I'd recommend having your vet take a look in person to determine what these are - they might recommend taking a sample using a small needle to examine under the microscope.

I am sorry to hear about Miley. It sounds like she could possibly have chin pyoderma. This can be a recurrent problem in some dogs, and isn't always related to plastic food dishes. Some dogs just seem prone to developing this folliculitis on their chin. Some of these dogs may require oral antibiotics if the infection is deep in the skin, others may benefit from topical products like a medicated shampoo or topical antibacterial mousse. Once the infection is under control, these dogs may benefit from daily use of medicated wipes such as Mal-a-ket wipes to try to prevent recurrence. I would make an appointment for your vet to examine Miley and determine if this is her problem, and if she does require systemic treatment. Best of luck to you and Miley.

Hi there! I think I just answered your previous post without the pictures - what a cutie Miss Minna is! This looks very much like the chin acne I mentioned, but if you are already feeding from stainless steel bowls, I'd bring her to the vet to have other conditions ruled out. They may be able to give her something to decrease the inflammation, as those bumps do appear to be quite irritated. Good luck!

There are a few different things that could be causing this, like parasites (fleas) or trauma (nosing around outside in an anthill, perhaps), but the most common reason for redness and bumps on the mouth and chin is a condition called "chin acne." Chin acne is just that - little pimples or red bumps on the chin (and sometimes the face). They are usually caused by chronic feeding from plastic food dishes. Plastic food and water bowls are notorious for collecting bacteria (even when cleaned regularly), and this bacteria gets on the chin and face while eating and drinking. If you are giving food or water to Minna in plastic bowls, I highly recommend switching to stainless steel. If you are already using stainless steel and there isn't any possibility of her getting into ant hills or thorny bushes, I suggest that you make an appointment with your vet to have her bumps evaluated. Good luck, and I hope Minna gets well soon!
