Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Reptile | Aquatic Turtle | Male | 0.8 lbs

My turtle back in India has a deformed shell, it looks bad and rotten. I have tried lots of different medicine and care routine suggested by local vets. But nothing has worked.the turtle otherwise is healthy, eats properly, is very active gets enough sunlight for basking as well. Can you please suggest what can i do to improve its shell? I live in US but my mom takes care of my turtle back in india. If needed i can take medicines from US to India. The turtle is with us for more than 7 years.

This degree of deformity is likely permanent. It typically is due to a poor diet and improper husbandry. The result you can do is maintain proper environmental parameters and feed a balanced diet including a calcium supplement and a multivitamin. Trimming the nails is also recommended. You can review slider care at the link below. http://www.reptilesmagazine.com/Red-Eared-Slider-Care-Sheet/ http://www.anapsid.org/reslider.html
