My dog threw up worms. Is Vermox the right medicine for his infection?

He could still vomit worms - it can take a few days and usually two doses to take care of most roundworms. There are some types of stomach worms that would require a different dewormer so I'd recommend seeing your veterinarian if Roman continues to vomit. They can test Roman's stool to help determine what type of worms are present, and it might also help to reserve a worm if he vomits another up.

Poor guy. If he vomited within 1 hr of giving the medication, he likely vomited it back up. However, if you are still unsure and didn't see the pill within the vomit, it is best to wait at least 3 days, give a second dose, then wait 2 weeks and give a 3rd dose just to make sure he gets the medication. Hello, sorry to hear about Milo. make sure you are giving him the granules with food. Dogs with worms may have occasional vomiting as well. It would be hard to tell from this point if Milo's medication had enough time to reach the worms. This medication kills worms in the intestines but only small amount get absorbed. Therefore, it would be safest to administer an extra day of this medication with food, then to give an extra dose tonight. However, you should consult with your primary care veterinarian and see if they too recommend administering an extra day of this medication. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Starting Maddox on a deworming treatment was a good idea and considering the worm he threw up was long, it's likely he has roundworms. An OTC dewormer will kill them. He will need another deworming treatment two weeks after this one to kill all the worms present. After that, he will need to be dewormed every three months.

I do not recommend using vermox in dogs (especially puppies). It can actually be toxic to the bone marrow and there are usually safer alternatives available. If there is a vet nearby, then they can help get you get a dewormer made for dogs. Also, I cannot (legally and ethically) recommend medications without having examined your dog first. If the picture is current and Max is five months old, then he does appear small for his age. He should be bigger than that. However, I don't think any amount of feeding will make him grow any bigger. He actually looks (hard to tell for sure without examining him in-person) in good body condition - meaning that he doesn't look like he's skinny. And, 16.5kg for five months is not too bad. If he is on a good formulated diet, then I do not see a need to add supplements. Adding too much nutrients to the diet may actually cause developmental abnormalities. This is a roundworm. He is old enough to give pyrantel a safe dewormer that is for roundworms and hook worms. That dewormer is inexpensive. You may be able to purchase it at your pet or feed store depending on where you live. Otherwise your veterinarian can deworm him. Proton should be dewormed every two weeks until a stool sample comes back negative. When he is old enough to start heartworm medication that also will prevent another parasite infection. Please keep the children away from his poop and wash their hands and yours after handling Proton. People can get roundworms but it is not common with normal hygiene. Hi there. You can get a broad-spectrum dewormer for dogs such as Panacur or Bayer Quad Dewormer, and give it according to the directions on the package. Nexgard is a flea/tick medication, and does not treat worms. Without knowing what type of worm it was, I can't say if it's contagious to your other dogs or not. The safest option would be to go ahead and deworm all of the dogs in the household.

If your dog is sick three hours after giving the worming treatment, this should be sufficient time for the worming treatment to be absorbed. To err on the side of caution, if your dog is known to be infested with worms, it might be a good idea to re-treat him in a week's time with a different product. I'm not sure which product you are currently using, but I recommend using Drontal. You can get a Drontal tablet from your vet. If that doesn't make him sick, you can use it as your regular worming treatment.

It is not uncommon for dogs to vomit after medication and generally if it is more then 2 hours after the medication should have worked. As the food was undigested it may not have been absorbed as well as anticipated and it may be worth applying a different type of spot on medication, especially if you are in a heartworm affected area.
