Why do my dog's seizure-like episodes stop when I call her name?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua (Smooth Coat) | Female | spayed | 7 years and 7 months old | 4 lbs

Brownie appears that she is about to have a seizure, with the eyes twitching, muscle spasms ,monuth chomping. then I say her name and it stops. I have never seen this behavior. It has always been her just going into a seizure. Can this happen? And by this I mean the seizure behavior just stopping when I talk to her. Or is it a different underlying condition causing her to appear a beginning seizure.

Sounds like a focal motor seizure (partial seizure). I suggest you video her doing this with your phone and then show it to your vet so you can get more advice. ( https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951440 )
