My dog has a hard brown lump on her head. Is it a cyst or tumor?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 4 years and 7 months old | 55 lbs

my dog has a raised hard dark brown lump on her head under her ear, its about pea sized and is red at the base of it. She has actin normal and it doesnt seem to hurt her. I noticed it a week ago and it hasnt changed but i dont know how long its been there, do you think its a cyst/cut or some type of tumor?

Hello, sorry to hear about Sammi. It’s 50/50 chance of telling really what it is based on the description. This would fit similarly with a cyst or a mast cell tumor. Other sabaceous adenomas can also look as such. The base of it being red does concern me a bit more for a mast cell tumor. The best way to differentiate these is by obtaining a fine needle aspirate if the mass to rule out a mast cell tumor. If so, then you can be less concern and discusss with your primary care veterinarian if removal is warranted. Hope this helps and best of luck.
