My senior dog is lethargic, hungry, and biting fur after castration.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | neutered | 24 years and 4 months old | 60 lbs

My dog has bitten the hair off his front legs and sometimes has raised red spots but not always . The top of his nose has went dry for about 3mm but the rest is wet . He is very lethargic and starving all the time even though he is eating his two meals plus treats . He's not going on his night time walk anymore . He is 12 and had a castration in November due to tumours in his testacles . The lethargy all started after his operation .

Poor Murphy. I would recommend some blood testing at this point to make sure he doesn't have any endocrine diseases like hypothyroidism or Cushin's Disease. After that you might want to consider a skin scraping or biopsy of the affected areas.
