Why are my betta's fins shredded even though he's active and young?

Hello i just got my betta 2 months ago and hes been healthy but yesterday i noticed his fins were severely shredded he still eats swims and is active ...however this also happend to my past betta that was 2 years old i assumed it was fin rot but then he died a couple days later so i thought it was old age but my new betta isnt old and i due often water changes..below is a before and after

Thanks for reaching out about Figi and including photos. The first thing that should be done is to test water quality for pH, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and temperature (highs and lows, day and night). Correct any problems as fin conditions are dependent on good water quality. Secondly, review diet, pellets should be only used for 2-3 months after purchase as vitamin C degrades quickly, and fish are dependent on dietary sources. No particular brand is scientifically proven to be a 100% all-they-need-diet, so brands should be varied at each purchase. If these not the problem, a veterinary visit is recommended to assess and provide a diagnostic/treatment plan for parasites or infection. Good luck.
