My dog has a blood clot in her leg. Will she recover on thinners?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 11 years and 7 months old | 70 lbs

My dog has a blood clot in pelvis and the right leg is more affected than the left. She is mobile but tires easy and is typically very active. The left leg shakes a little. She is now on blood thinners, will she fully recover?

It’s difficult to say - some dogs will fully recover, and if she still has sensation in both legs her prognosis is fairly good. It also depends on what caused the clot - if it is from cancer or another problem that causes recurrent clots it could happen again. I’d recommend taking to your vet since Molli’s exam findings would help determine her prognosis.
