Why does my dog only eat when hand-fed? Is it normal or spoiling?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Pinscher | Male | unneutered | 12 lbs

i put out food for my dog every morning and majority of times he won't eat right away but will eventually will eat before noon, and most times he'll eat the whole bowl and the other times he'll just look at it and walk away BUT the weird situation of this is, he'll eat it when i hand feed it to him, is this normal and should i continue this in a way that might benefit my dog when hand feeding him or am i simply spoiling him?

Some dogs are not food motivated and this is ok as long as they are healthy otherwise. I don't recommend hand feeding in general (to a healthy pet) because some pets will soon stop eating unless you hand feed them. They think hand feeding is the normal routine. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
