Can my dog take Prozac and Xanax together for severe panic attacks?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | spayed | 8 years and 4 months old | 11 lbs

My 8 year old 11 pound Shiz Tuz has sever panic attacks since she was 2 years old. Her Vet treated her with Xanax for the first year then after loosing effect switched her to Prozac. She has remained anxious through it all but both meds did help. However, this last year her panic attacks have gotten much worse and are daily. My question is can my dog take Prozac and Xanax together daily. She needs more than what either can do separately. We have also tried all calming techniques.

I hate to hear this is happening to Miss Prissy! Yes, some dogs do take these medications together though the dosage is often adjusted. I recommend to discuss this with your vet. There are other medications which can also help. This link is about some secondary treatments that may also help in combination with the medication: https://www.petcoach.co/article/7-natural-treatments-for-dog-anxiety/ I hope this helps.
