Hi My dog recently had a urinary infection & in the process it was noted that his prostate in larger than it should be, is an irregular shape, but not causing any issues at present & the vet indicated that I should have him desexed. I am happy to do this for medical reasons but want to be confident that doing this will help reduce the possibility of a urinary infection reoccurrence & that it will help keep his prostate from changing any further as indicated by the vet. Regards, Jay

Hi there. Yes, having Boomer neutered should prevent any further issues with prostatitis, and will also prevent any issues with BPH (benign prostatic hypertrophy, or an enlarged prostate). Neutering in dogs does NOT prevent prostate cancer, so that's the only common prostate-related issue that he would still be at risk for after having the neuter surgery.
