I have a 3 years old Husky that keeps scratching his lower mouth. After some research, I found the symptoms are quite similar to what people have said in the forums about zrd (zinc responsive dermatosis). It causes red scarring below their mouth. To treat this, I bought a dispersible tablet containing 20mg of zinc sulphate monohydrate. Is it safe for him and presumably his kidney if I give him the tablet once a day? Because it seems that the itching has gone down significantly. Thanks

I don't recommend to start this supplement on your pup without speaking with your veterinarian. Yes, arctic breeds can get zinc responsive dermatitis but the condition is rare. More common causes of lip dermatitis are allergies to something in the environment or food. I recommend to explore these options first. Speak with your veterinarian about what to look for first. I hope this helps.
