Juez is so adorable! I would recommend crate training. This is usually the fastest way to train a puppy. The pee pads work but some dogs don't respond to them, they chew them up or it just teaches them that it is okay to pee inside. I will attach an article with more details on how to crate train a dog. Make sure you get a crate that is adjustable where you can place a partition to make it smaller to begin with and increase it as he grows. At any given time, it should only big enough for him to stand up and turn around. Any bigger and they may pee in one corner and sleep in the other. By keeping your puppy in a small area, he will refrain from eliminating where he has to lie down or stay close to the accident. I would start at the basics and crate train him. This means getting him and crate and leaving him in there when you cannot monitor him. When he is outside of his crate, I would take him outside every hour and then 30 minutes after he eats/drinks. I will put a few links below to help reteach him how to be potty trained. You need to avoid the opportunity for her to potty in the house. Give her 15 minutes outside. If nothing happens, use the leash or carry her from the yard and directly into the crate. Keep her in the crate for 30-45 minutes. Then use a leash or carry her directly outside. Repeat this until she eventually potties outside. As soon as she potties, praise her and give her treats. She needs to be rewarded so that she starts to understand. She can then have freedom in the house until you know she should need to potty again. Most dogs enjoy being in the crate if they are tired and get a treat when they go in. For potty training it's important to have a crate that isn't too big as dogs usually will not soil where they sleep. Since you are home during the day I would take Deuce out every hour or two for potty breaks and a little exercise. Take him to the same place outside to go to the bathroom and praise him and give a treat when he goes. It's best to have the crate in another room so he can rest and get used to being alone. Don't get him excited when you get him out, just be calm and take him right outside as he may need to go and puppies often will urinate when excited. Most dogs are not fully trained until they are four months old so be patient. Only have him free in the house when you have time to watch him so he doesn't learn to go in the house. Snoopy is absolutely adorable!! I would keep Snoopy in the crate when you cannot keep 100% watch on him. When he comes out of the crate I would then walk him (on a leash even if the backyard is enclosed). After he goes to the bathroom he can go off leash to play. If he goes then I would play with him and once you have to turn your back he goes back in the crate. If he does not go to the bathroom when you take him out of the crate I would put him back in for 20 minutes and try again. If you catch him going to the bathroom tell him no and take him and put him where you want him to go and praise him for going. If you just see the accident then clean it up and do not say anything to him. A crate should be big enough for him to stand up, sit down and turn around. The crate is a very safe option and dogs end up loving their crates, it's their safe house. Since we do not know what type of life Snoopy had previously this process can take some time and patience. It sounds like you are going to have to be very patient with Pookie. Most dogs do not want to go in their crate, so hopefully that will help teach her to hold it until she is taken out. Remember that the word potty doesn't mean anything to Pookie at this point, so she is likely just confused when you use the word repeatedly. Since Pookie does not seem to know to go outside, you will likely need to spend a lot of time outside walking around until she just happens to go outside. You will then want to reward that behavior (using treats or verbal praise) to try to encourage it again. Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Deep breath! He is only 10 weeks old. There is no puppy, especially a male toy breed, that is house trained at 10 weeks. My advice is that all rooms that have doors need to be closed and he needs to be either gated in a small area, crated or leashed to an adult at all times. He needs to be taken out every 30 minutes (with in reason, I know everyone has busy lives) and when he goes make a BIG deal about it: verbal praise, treats and 5-10 minutes of play before going inside. If he doesn't go he is crated if you are busy or again attached to an adult so he doesn't wander off to pee/poop. Do not teach him to use wee-wee pads or newspaper. No hitting/negative re-enforcement. Male small breed dogs are hard to house train, it will not happen over night. You have to give yourself and him time or you are going to drive yourself crazy. If he is not neutered this can be a behavioral issue. I would recommend neutering him immediately to hopefully stop this behavior. I would also recommend crate training him. You must choose a crate that Hachi can stand up, sit down and turn around. A crate should only create a positive environment. Never use the crate for punishment. Despite what many people think do not line the crate with blankets or beds. Keeping Hachi in the crate when you cannot keep 100% eye on him is important. Every time you take him out of the crate take him on a walk to make sure they go to the bathroom and give positive reinforcement if he does. If they do not eliminate while you are outside then put Hachi back in the crate for another 20minutes. After 20 minutes take him out once again to try. If Hachi does go to the bathroom make sure you take time to play with him and when you have to turn your back again put them back in the crate. I hope this helps. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.
