My senior dog is coughing constantly at night. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

I've rescued a 10yr old small terrier mix. He used to cough a lil mayb once or twice a day. But the last week he's, started all the time. It sounds terrible. He's fine sleeping but when he moves he, starts and always at nite. He eats and drinks just fine. I don't know if it's an asthma or allergy thing. I have 10mg flexeril some1 suggested to give him mayb to relax him

I recommend bringing him to a veterinarian and having them listen to his chest. This may be respiratory or heart related but having a veterinarian auscultate them is the first step. It may require x-rays to determine what it going on also. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
