Pets can get bloody stool for many reasons and this could range from a severe bacterial imbalance to a foreign object making its way through the intestines. When blood is in the stool, it is more concerning for a severe cause of diarrhea and is always a reason to see the veterinarian. I recommend to have your pet examined by the veterinarian today to play it safe. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

He could just have some irritation in his intestines from something that he ate. If he is otherwise acting normal with no vomiting, lethargy, or decreased appetite than you could monitor for the day. If it continues than he should be examined by your vet to determine the cause. Your vet can test a stool sample and then prescribe medications to help.
