Hi, I took my 12 week puppy to get his rabies vaccine this afternoon, and he has been really low energy ever since. Is this normal?

A bit of lethargy, fever or pain at the site of injection can be seen after any vaccine. It typically resolves within 12-24 hours. If not, recheck with your veterinarian. Symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian include extreme swelling, extreme lethargy, difficulty breathing or vomiting/diarrhea. These may indicate a vaccine reaction.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Lucky. Yes, this can be normal. For some dogs, the shot can be painful and cause them to have low energy, not want to move, and a decrease in appetite. He should return to normal in 24-48 hours. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, hives, facial swelling, or difficulty breathing, take him into a vet immediately. I hope this helps!
