Why is my mouse tearing herself, bleeding, and constantly sneezing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Mouse | Female | unspayed | 0.02 lbs

I have a 10 month old mouse who lives with her sister. She has been constantly bleeding from scabs she creates on her own. She has torn off one ear and is working on the other. She is constantly sneezing and I’m thinking about having to put her down. Her sister is fine but I really need some help. I can’t find anything online about this.

Are you sure she is self mutilating? Mice can sometimes do it to other mice in the cage. It is called "barbering". It is basically overgrooming. If she is self mutilating, potential causes could be stress, infection, malnutrition or overcrowding. Since she has open wounds and other injuries, she should see a veterinarian. Antibiotics may be indicated. You may want to consider separating them until the underlying cause is diagnosed and she recovers.
