My blue heeler was making odd hacking/heaving noises the she threw up what looks like her food and mucous. I offered her water a bit after and she started the hacking again the threw up again. I waited several hours before offering her water and she did fine thus time. I then gave her a small amount of food which she ate fine. She is still active, playful and has an appetite. She had not thrown up again but she has been hacking/dry heaving. bowels are normal. her nose does seem a bit more drippy

Hello. It sounds like Farah has some esophageal irritation, or possibly even a case of tracheitis ( inflammation of the trachea ). This can be caused by some irritant she inhaled, like smoke, or she may have a case of kennel cough, also called tracheobronchitis. It may be a good idea to have her evaluated by your veterinarian in case she requires antibiotics or even an anti-inflammatory to quiet her cough. I do hope you can have her seen soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
