My dog's injured toenail still hurts after a week. What can I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Bully | Female | spayed | 6 years and 2 months old | 60 lbs

Not sure how, but while at our kennel, Tilly (6yr-old Pit) managed to injure her toenail. It obviously hurts and hasn't really changed (good or bad) for a week now. Any recommendations?

It looks from the picture that tilly has lost the outer hard shell from the nail. Although this will develop over time, if she's uncomfortable then surgical shortening of the soft, sensitive nail can improve recovery
