When to administer dog antibiotics and probiotics for best absorption?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Female | unspayed | 5 years old | 5 lbs

My yorkie is on Clavamox bc of pyometra she was spayed 3 days ago. A week after Thanksgiving she had GI upset and was sent home on antibiotics and pro viable DC. So she definitely has some imbalances. My question is when best to administer the two medicines. Together? Same time? After one the other? For maximum benefit.....

Hello. Ideally, I recommend administering the probiotic two hours before or after administering an antibiotic. With this 2 hour window, you will have maximum absorption of the probiotic with no interference from the antibiotic. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
