My cat keeps vomiting tan liquid and has low energy. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 lbs

Hello, my cat is half indoor and half outdoor. Last night he vomited tan, thin liquid and then has vomited twice this morning. No blood, food, or mucus in the vomitus... it’s just a tan liquid. He has had some wet food this morning but no dry food or water (that I’ve seen). He has not used his box to my knowledge yet and he seems like he has less energy. I’m not sure what he could’ve ingested or if this could be serious.

Hi and thanks for posting-sorry to hear Evander is vomiting and has energy. Vomiting can have many causes- eating something out of the ordinary, foreign body ingestion/obstruction, bacterial or viral infections among others. If he doesn't seem to improve throughout the day then I'd recommend taking him in to see his veterinarian. Your vet may run blood work and x-rays to help determine the cause of the vomiting and lethargy.
