My puppy has an itchy, scaly spot on her back. Is it ringworm?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pomeranian | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 2 days old | 2 lbs

My Pom puppy has a itchy circle spot on her back. About the size of a quarter. Has been there for about a week. It started the day after the vet gave her de-worming medicine and her topical anti flea and parasite prevention. It’s scaly. Does it look like an allergy to something ? Maybe a reaction to the de worming medicine? Does it look like ringworm? She is on a grain free diet which her vet actually recommended I change so I will be changing that and including grain soon. Thank you!

I would be worried about ringworm with this. I recommend to have Coco checked for ringworm since humans can get it. It could also be something like a bacterial infection. An allergic reaction is possible but most pets would get several lesions. I agree to change the food. I recommend the food Royal Canin Small Breed: https://www.royalcanin.com/us/dogs/products/size-health-nutrition/very-small-and-small-range I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
