Why is my 9-week-old puppy sick? Hot, panting, not eating, diarrhea.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | unspayed | 13 lbs

My dog hasn't eaten anything since this morning, I showered her yesterday. Her rose was runny this morning. Her ears and stomach are hot, her breathing is fast, she is panting, her eyes are red, her tongue is whitish and dry, she won't move much. She is not vomiting though and her stool is watery. She is 9 weeks old.

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would recommend having Chao examined by a veterinarian based on these symptoms. I am worried about a respiratory infection / possible pneumonia. This needs to be addressed sooner rather than later so that antibiotic therapy can begin right away. I hope this helps and hope she gets better soon!
