My cat is lethargic and changed behavior after stopping prednisolone?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Bengal | Male | neutered | 1 year and 5 months old | 9.7 lbs

Cat became sick (high fever, low lymofcytes) was positive on corona but no symptoms. After a day he got better. Then he got sick again(same symptoms).Got other medication: 1,5ml ceftriaxone,(12mg)of prednisolone, 0,8ml ranitidine for 10 days. He is good for 10days now. But i see lethargy in my cat. He used to dominate my other cat while playing but now is the screaming one. Also there is dandruff on the spots he got injected. Could prednison be the cause of lethargy. And the sudden stopof it.

If he was on 12mg of prednisolone for 10 days straight and then it was suddenly stopped, then yes that could be part of the problem, but its also possible that he is still ill from the original disease. I would strongly recommend that you take to your veterinarian; it would be useful to recheck a physical exam and some blood tests. They may recommend running a baseline cortisol to ensure that stopping the pred is not the cause of current symptoms. Thank you for asking Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!
