Why is my dog peeing in her sleep? Is it linked to past illness?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 8 years and 7 months old | 65 lbs

In October, frankie had nausea, vomiting, nystagmous, loss of balance and paralysis of her right eye, and headtilt. The vet found nothing wrong in her blood work. Within 2 days the symptoms slowed themself and we took her home w the symptoms completely reversing within a few weeks. She still sometimes has a head tilt but not often. I have been noticing pee spots and she recent lost control of her bladder while asleep. Could this be related to what happened in oct?

It may not be related, that episode was a couple of months ago. Frankie could be suffering from a UTI, bladder stones, or spay incontinence. I'd have her seen by a vet in the morning to have this diagnosed and treated.

Urinating during sleep like this is usually caused by urinary incontinence, meaning that she isn't able to control her bladder. The most common cause in female dogs is a weak bladder sphincter - this can happen with age, and could certainly also be influenced by her history of having puppies. Sometimes, this problem can also be caused by a systemic illness that causes the dog to produce so much urine that she can't control her bladder well, such as diabetes or Cushing's disease. I would recommend taking her to the vet when you are able to - he/she can do a urinalysis and blood work to help check for any problems like this. If she does have a weak bladder sphincter, this problem is usually very treatable with daily medication :)

4 yr old spayed female dog has peed twice in her sleep in the last hour and I took her out in between incidents to pee. Should I take her to an emergency vet or wait till tomorrow?
You can wait until tomorrow, it could be urinary incontinence which is common in spayed females but it could also be a urinary infection, she will need to have a urine analysis done and the vet will provide the correct treatment according to the test results.

My dog (female age 5, spayed) has been having accidents in her sleep almost? Like she doesn’t even know she’s urinated. Also just today, she went outside to try to poop and couldn’t go two separate times then came inside and vomited. Please advise!
Hello. Having urinary accidents while sleeping is usually caused by a decrease in muscle strength at the neck of the bladder & is fairly common in spayed female dogs. Most respond to a medication, either Proin or Incurin. Not being able to have a bowel movement could indicate she is constipated, & if she becomes blocked enough, this could result in vomiting. A severe enough urinary tract infection can cause her to not only leak urine, but possibly vomit too. It sounds like it might be best to have Skye evaluated by your veterinarian in case she does need antibiotics are some other treatment to help her. he has starting peeing anywhere he wants too - would this be a health issue?
Yes, if Frank has been housetrained in the past and does not normally have accidents, this would strongly suggest a medical problem of some kind. A urinary tract infection, bladder stones, or a systemic illness like Cushing's disease or diabetes would also be common causes of peeing in inappropriate places in an older dog like this. I would recommend taking Frank to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - he/she can do a urinalysis and general blood work if needed to help determine the problem and get him started on appropriate medication to treat it.

She has also been peeing in her sleep uncontrollably what could be causing this?
I'm not sure what kind of pet you have, but generally urinating during sleep is caused by urinary incontinence - this can be due to a weak bladder sphincter muscle, a neurologic problem afffecting the nerves in this area, or even certain types of congenital problems such as ectopic ureters. I would recommend having your pet examined by a vet when you are able to - he/she can do a urinalysis as well as other testing if needed to help determine what is causing the incontinence and get her started on appropriate treatment for this problem.

It sounds like your dog may have urinary incontinence, and is leaking urine when she sleeps. There are several conditions of the urinary system that can cause incontinence, including a urinary tract infection, kidney disease or infection, bladder stones, bladder disease, spinal disease/trauma or spay incontinence. In order to diagnose the cause, she will need to see her veterinarian for an exam. The vet will want to do further testing including a urinalysis, blood work and possibly x-rays. If all of these tests come back normal then the likely cause is spay incontinence, which is a weakening of the bladder sphincters due to a lack of hormones caused by spaying. This can be treated with medication to prevent her leaking.

My 8 month old pug pees in his bed & sometimes on ours & the rugs/carpet. I take him out every 4-6 hours. Please help!
There could be a medical reason behind Frankie urinating in the house, such as a UTI or bladder stones. I do recommend calling your vet on Monday to make an appointment for him to be seen. The vet can do a physical exam, blood tests, and a urinalysis to see if he does have a UTI or bladder stones. If he has one of those things, the vet can discuss treatment options with you. Should a medical problem be ruled out, then the vet can discuss behavioral methods to deal with the behavior, but first it is important to have this health check done. Best of luck!

What a cutie she is! If she is doing this in her sleep the the most common cause would be a weakness of the sphincter that stops the bladder from emptying. This is a common issue in spayed female dogs and can often be treated with medication. I would make an appointment for your vet to examine her and make sure she doesn't have a urinary tract infection, and to discuss if they think she would benefit from a medication trial for sphincter mechanism incontinence aka spay incontinence. So, my dog went to the vet about 4 days ago to get her routine blood work and urine samples tested. Everything came back good except for her globulin was a little high. Vet said that's nothing to worry about. She had no UTI and her urine was perfect.
It is possible she is developing incontinence which is quite common in females, especially once spayed. UTIs generally are associated with frequent attempts, straining and small volumes of urine rather than leakage bed when sleeping or sitting. Contact your vets office to report the additional signs, most cases can be successfully managed with medication

So my 12 yr old chihuahua mix has always used pee pads but all of the sudden is peeing on my bed and I don't know why...
Poor Binky! I would be concerned about a potential urinary tract infection since she is older and is well house trained. Urinary tract inflammation or urinary stones can cause changes in bathroom behavior like this. Older dogs can also develop incontinence, which can appear as if she is urinating in abnormal spots, but really she may just be leaking urine passively while sleeping. I would recommend you take Binky in to your vet to have her urine evaluated. She may need antibiotics or incontinence medication based on the urine results. Hopefully this is an easy problem to solve and she is back to normal soon!
