What can I give my cat for congestion, sneezing, and difficulty breathing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 years and 10 months old | 18 lbs

I have an adult, male cat, 3 years old, about 18 pounds. Very very good overall health. His only concerning problem is off and on periods of what appears to be congestion. He sneezes, seems to swallow a lot like possible drainage going down the back of his throat, seems to have trouble clearing his nose/throat of congestion to breathe. I wanted to try to give him something for drainage/congestion. What do you suggest?

You can try giving Squirrel an L-lysine supplement - this is an amino acid that has been shown to help the immune system fight off respiratory infections more effectively. Enisyl and Viralys are both good brands, and can be purchased over the counter without a prescription - just follow the dosing instructions on the label based on your cat's weight.
