I accidentally gave my dog meloxicam and carprieve tonight because he was limping due to injuring his him we think earlier jumping off the bed. He is about 18kg I gave him half a tablet of carprieve) and .3mg of Meloxicam. It’s midnight here and I don’t know if watching and waiting overnight is dangerous?

The dose of meloxicam is not toxic for a dog this size. I am unsure how much Carprieve he received as you just state "half a tablet". There are multiple milligram strengths of carprieve. The big concern with these is when you give multiple NSAIDs together you could cause a stomach ulcer. Be on the lookout for vomiting / lethargy and if you see anything, I would get Steel in to a veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for your question. This kind of switch or addition of meloxicam will very unlikely be fatal for your dog! Both of these medications are NSAIDs and can cause GI distress if given at high doses long term together; however, one extra dose is unlikely to cause serious signs. I would recommend continuing to monitor your dog for the next 24-36 hours. If he begins to experience any GI signs such as vomiting or diarrhea I would recommend having him seen by your veterinarian for symptomatic treatment. Don't fret over this, mistakes can happen!
