Pet's info: Small Animal | Guinea Pig | Male

Hi! My guinea pig is always hungry. Whenever I walk past his cage, which is often, he’s always climbing on his cage begging for food. He started doing this when I began giving him carrots as a treat. Why is he doing this?

Thanks for reaching out about Felipe. Guinea pigs are constant grazers, continuously eating. When you gave him the carrots, you provided a positive reinforcement for a behavior (climbing on the cage). Now when climbing on the cage, he expects a treat. Try letting him out and using the carrot treat for a behavior you want to train, such as sitting in your lap. Good luck.
