My dog got coffee in his eye and yelped. Should I be concerned?

Pet's info: Dog | Great Pyrenees | Male | neutered | 75 lbs

Good morning, I was letting my dogs out this morning and I had my freshly brewed cup of coffee in hand. I got bumped by the dogs running outside and a little bit of coffee spilled right on Falkor's (great pyrenees) eye. He let out a yelp. I rinsed his eye with clean water. He seems ok, but should I be worried? Thank you

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Falkor. Poor boy! Monitor his eye for now. If you see redness, swelling, or discharge, you will have to take him into a vet immediately. Hopefully, however, he will be ok. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Focal irritation to the eye can cause a defect on the cornea, leading to eye irritation. I would recommend flushing your dog’s eye out with plain saline eye rinse (not anything like visine!) and then monitoring the eye. If it is red, has discharge, or he’s holding it closed, it could indicate a corneal scratch, which could be diagnosed and treated by your veterinarian. Good luck!

I noticed one of his eyes seemed off color and seemed to be a bit redder than usual. I can't really afford to take him to the vet unless it is serious. Is it something I should have him seen for?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! If Shiro isn’t holding the eye closed or acting painful and there isn’t yellow-green discharge you can just monitor the eye. It could simply be allergies. If the eye is painful he sadly should be seen to make sure their isn’t a scratch, uveitis or glaucoma. I hope this help and I hope you have a good holiday!

This is concerning and could be due to conjunctivitis as you pointed out though other possibilities such as a foreign body reaction, corneal ulcer or laceration or even inflammation of the periocular structures could also be going on. Regardless, this does warrant a visit to your veterinarian as soon as possible as he is likely painful. They would be able to examine his eye closely and start therapy based on findings. our puppy just was given a flea bath and when we picked her up, we noticed she kept squinting one eye. Should we be very concerned?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be due to getting the product in the eye. It could also be due to an eye injury of some sort like a corneal injury for instance or a corneal ulcer. If this continues, Luna should be evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Olaf his adorable! From your picture I am not worried. In some breeds the eyes can get a little red with excitement, when they are tired, etc. As long as Olaf's eyes do not seem painful: excessive blinking, holding an eye closed, excessive tearing, yellow or green discharge or rubbing them it is fine to wait until your appointment next week. My pet dog was vaccinated 2 days ago. Day before yesterday, another pet dog bit him near eye! and greenish-yellow puss started coming around his eye the next day Today his eye is much better(no puss formation) but there is still uncomfortableness!!!!

Hi a few weeks ago my puppy got a drip of boiling kettle water on what i thought to be hes face but have just discovered like theres a piece of the glossy bit on hes eyeball missing should i see avet .. he didnt yelp or anything but im panicing now i
I recommend flushing the eye with sterile saline eye wash or cooled boiled water, occasionally objects or stray hairs can become trapped on the surface of the eye causing such patterns. If it does rinse off then yes, you should see a vet straight away as french bulldogs are prone to painful corneal ulcers which can result in significant pain, discomfort and scarring if left untreated

Hi I came home last night from work and my dogs eye was completely swollen, bloodshot red and he is unable to shut his eye, I went to the vet but I had to pay $98 in order for them to see him but I don’t have that right now . I just need to know what
Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. From the picture, it appears that the eye is much large than the left eye, indicating either trauma to the eye or a disease such as glaucoma. I suspect this is likely due to trauma. He may have fallen while at home and hit his head or ran into something and his eye is now wanting to fall out of the socket. I would recommend applying cool and warm compress to the eye to help take down some of the inflammation and placing a plastic cone around his neck so that he does not further traumatize the eye. I would recommend getting him in to see a veterinarian right away when you can so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I hope this helps! I would also recommend giving Well and Good Buffered Aspirin for Dogs (can find at Petco). There is something wrong with my dog’s eye. He was outside running around the fence barking at people not being aware of what’s close to him. He ran into alot of plants with thorns. Do I need to bring him to the vet?
Hi and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco! Thank you for the pictures as well- poor little Rudy! Yes, you will need to take Rudy into see his veterinarian. Rudy is squinting and seems reluctant to open his right eye. He may have endured trauma or injury to his eye which may have resulted in a corneal abrasion or scratch which are quite painful and need special treatments in order to heal properly. Your veterinarian will examine the eye and will stain the eye to check for corneal injury. Rudy may need to go home with antibiotic eye medications or other medications as needed. My dog's right eye seems little bit cloudy .
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Eye changes are very hard to evaluate just based on a picture. I do not see anything too concerning on this picture. However, if you are able to see something concerning and more importantly, if your pup seems bothered by it and seems uncomfortable, I recommend that you have your veterinarian take a look to make sure there is nothing concerning like a corneal ulcer or anterior uveitis going on.
