My dog has a vaccine reaction bump on her leg. Should it be removed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Female | spayed | 7 years and 10 months old | 24 lbs

I brought in my pug to get vaccines (flu and bordetella) in October. A week late I noticed a bump on her left hind thigh. I brought her back in to the vet and she said it could be a reaction to the vaccine but since the techs didn’t indicate what leg they did the vaccines in (they should’ve) she couldbt be for sure. I brought her back in recently for a biopsy of it and it came back as “an immune response” and the vet couldn’t be sure what it is caused from. Should I have it removed?

Hello. If this is a "vaccine bump" it may subside on its own. You can have it removed, but it may not be absolutely necessary, especially if Simone does not seem to be bothered by it. It is unlikely that this will morph into something worrisome like cancer. Watch it for the next few months & then decide if removal is necessary.
