My 5-month-old kitten has diarrhea. How can I help her get better?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 months and 26 days old | 2 lbs

My cat is around 5 months old. She suddenly start having diarrhea She also doesn't seem to be able to control it and spreads it's across the house in small amounts. She also seems like shes experiencing discomfort sometimes. What should I do to help her get better? There isn't any blood or any symptoms that I noticed. She is eating and drinking as usual besides drinking more water. Thank you.

Poor Emy. Feed her a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, she refuses to eat the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.

Diarrhea is a bit concerning, so I can give Koko a home remedy for it. Oh my goodness, Gerdou is absolutely beautiful! Yes, it is typically recommended to not feed a cat for a period of time when they are suffering from diarrhea. It allows their stomach to settle, and then a bland diet is introduced after this period of starving. For a 56 day old kitten, I wouldn't withhold food for more than 12 hours. After this time period, feed Gerdou a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. Hopefully she feels better soon, but have her seen by the vet again if the diarrhea continues on the bland diet.

Congrats on your new kitten, but I'm sorry she is sick! If she is eating a different brand of food from what she was fed at the shelter, this could be the cause of her GI upset (vomiting and diarrhea). Sudden changes in diets cause GI upset in cats, and they need to be transitioned slowly to a new food. I would withhold food for 8 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. New kitten aged 11 weeks has bad diarrhea. Should I withhold food for 12 hours to help her ?
Withhold food for so long in such a small kitten is not recommended. Diarrhea is a signs referring to a intestinal problem. It could be due to parasitic infestation (very common in kittens) dietary indiscretion, inflammatory disease, bacterial diseases or viral diseases. You could provide bland food (boiled breast chicken or white fish or gastrointestinal commercial diet) for a 24-36 but, if she continues to have diarrhea, might get dehydrated and therefore need to be checked by a veterinarian. Also if you can spot blood in the faces or if she get lethargic and not eating, or if she start vomiting, I would suggest to have her checked by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Consider a veterinary probiotic such as Bene-Bac, ProViable or FortiFlora. You can fast her for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to her regular diet afterwards.
