My dog has a large head bump and is shaking his ears. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | 2 years and 4 months old | 72 lbs

This morning my 2y6m golden retriever had a very large bump on his head (2/3 pic) has never been this pronounced (1/3 pic) doesn't seem to bother him, he does seem annoyed when I touch it. Has been shaking ears this week- cleaned them twice. Wiped awayBrown not a lot. Appetite is great, normal activity, nrml urination and BM maybe panting more than usual Has not changed shape all day. Not warm I would say moderate soft to hard

Poor Charlie. That bump does look big. You need to have it checked out by a vet, and I'd take him into one in the morning. While there, the vet can check out his ears, as it sounds like he may have an ear infection.

Charlie likely has an aural hematoma. This is where essentially blood fills a pocket under the skin. This is likely to grow in size and could become infected and causing pain. Sometimes we have to do surgery to drain this other times we can treat it with an injection. This can cause scarring of his ear. I recommend Charlie get examined by his veterinarian today to prevent complications. He may also have an your infection that needs to be treated to prevent him from continuing to shake his head.

Hello! I just found a red lump/bump in my dog's ear and he keeps shaking his head. I can't get to a vet until Monday and I'm just wondering what this might be I have also attached a picture so you can see it.
This lump could represent a cyst like structure or a neoplasia (tumor) or a spot of infection. It is essential to have it checked by your local veterinarian as this could be sampled to determine its underlying nature. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump. My dog is 2 years old and has been constantly shaking his head and scratching his ear for the past mont and today I saw a huge bump on the inner part of his ear flap it is very swollen . What is wrong with his ear ?
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! What you describe sounds like an ear hematoma. This condition can develop from head shaking which in turn can occur as a result of allergies or an infection so this may be the primary issue. This is usually treated surgically with drainage and a minor surgical procedure to avoid reaccumulation of blood. However, it could be something else like inflammation or an infection. For this reason, I recommend that you have Lucky evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck!

This bump popped up on my dogs ear tonight. He wants to keep scratching at it and keeps shaking his head. What is it and how can I treat it?

This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. It looks like it could just be a benign tumor like a wart, but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. Any suspicious lumps should be examined by the vet. The vet can perform a test called a fine needle aspirate on it. To do this, the vet sticks a small needle into the lump to get a sample of its cells, and examines the cells on a slide under a microscope. It's usually painless to the animal, and relatively quick to perform. Once the cause of the lump is diagnosed, the vet can discuss treatment options if needed. Thank you for the picture and clarification. This looks like it could be an aural hematoma, which is when fluid gets trapped between the layers of the ear. This is usually a sign of an ear infection. I'd have this checked out by a vet.

If Max does not have an infection in his ears (and had a full otic exam that examined the base of his ear canal), shaking his ears could be indicative of itching or allergies. This could be systemic allergies (either food or environmental) or itching secondary to skin parasites (fleas or mites). If he seems uncomfortable, I would recommend having him re-evaluated by a veterinarian to discuss other possible causes for his discomfort and treatment possibilities (anti-itch medications, food changes, etc). I would like advice on what this could be inside my dogs ear. I’ve only noticed it today it’s about the size of a pea. She’s been shaking her head a bit today and whining.
Wow, something very strange. It looks like Pimms likely has an ear infection, in addition to whatever that critter/plant material is that has attached itself to her ear. She needs to get to a vet ASAP. This is certainly not life threatening, but I would still consider going to an emergency clinic for promote evaluation, cleaning, and treatment because she's probably quite uncomfortable. Good luck!
