My hamster is losing weight but seems healthy and active. Why?

Pet's info: Small Animal | Hamster | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 5 months old

My otherwise healthy and fat hamster has been losing weight and I am getting worried. His poop is firm, he eats a lot and has a nice shiny fur. The only reason I can think of is that he wasn’t very active at first and now he is running in his wheel all the time and up a lot. He doesn’t drink much but he never did. How can I fatten him up. I don’t want to loose my buddy.

Thanks for reaching out about Obelix. Being in fit condition after loosing weight is not necessary a problem, especially if very active. Hamsters are basically desert animals and drink little anyways. Monitor for now to determine if continues to loose weight. A veterinary visit would be needed to determine if a problem exists. Good luck.
