Symptoms of parvo include vomiting, bloody diarrhea, a characteristic terrible smell to the diarrhea, fever, lethargy, loss of appetite, and rapid weight loss. If you think he has parvo, you need to take him into a vet immediately. Parvo is very deadly. Best of luck.

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! The clinical signs you describe are concerning as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. However, other possibilities include are gastroenteritis due to other reasons, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Prince evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start him on medications to make him feel better. I am worried that he has been declining rapidly and needs veterinary treatment. What are the symptoms of parvovirus in a puppy
The most common symptoms are vomiting, diarrhea, lethargic, and not eating. They do not have to have all of these symptoms in the beginning. If you are concerned, I would have your vet take a look at him. The sooner he gets diagnosed and treated, the more likely he can be saved. I hope this helps!

Hello, thank you for your question about Buck. The most common symptoms of parvovirus include vomiting, diarrhea, and severe lethargy. The diarrhea tends to have a significant odor and may contain blood. If you are at all concerned that your puppy could have parvovirus I would strongly recommend seeking veterinary care. Parvovirus can lead to significant and life-threatening infection if the puppy does not receive adequate treatment and supportive care. Hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. Yes, other signs typically would be present with parvo such as vomiting, lethargy and inappetence though in theory it could still be parvo. I recommend that you have Shaggy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea depending on the results. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

what is the difference between parvovirus and gastrointestinal infection? is gastrointestinal infection a virus too that can get by other dogs?
Parvovirus is a severe viral infection that typically infects young unvaccinated puppies, and rare older unvaccinated dogs. Parvovirus is caused by canine parvovirus type 2b. Symptoms include bloody and very smelly diarrhea, lethargy, anorexia, and severe vomiting. There is no cure for it, only symptomatic treatment, and is frequently fatal. GI infections can be caused bacteria, medications, viruses, or parasites. While it also causes vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and anorexia, there typically isn't a bad smell to the diarrhea, nor is it as deadly. Parvo is highly contagious, while GI infections are not necessarily infectious depending on the cause. Parvo can be diagnosed with a blood test, and because it's so life threatening, diagnosis and treatment must be instituted as soon as possible.

If my dog is vomiting and has bloody diarrhea does he have parvo ?
Hi there and thanks for posting on Boop by Petco. Vomiting as well as bloody diarrhea are symptoms of several medical conditions, including a parvovirus infection. It can also be caused by a bacterial infection, parasitic infection, toxin, or cancerous process or an autoimmune disorder. I would recommend Ryder sees his vet today or very soon to get checked out so a diagnosis can be made and he can receive the appropriate treatments. My dog hasn’t eaten or drank in 2 days, almost three and vomited yellow bile twice. He also has runny , like water, type stool and hes also extremely lethargic. Could this be the early signs of Parvo?
Hello, This unfortunately does sound very much like Parvovirus. As he hasn't eaten or drank in two days, he is probably extremely dehydrated and lacking nutrition. I would recommend taking him into a vet as soon as possible to get a parvo test done. Parvovirus affects the white blood cells in the bone marrow as well, so blood work can help know how affected he is by the virus. Most parvo treatments require at least a week of fluid therapy, nutritional therapy, IV antibiotics and anti-nausea medications. It unfortunately has about a 50% survival rate, even with treatment. Another thing that can cause vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy, especially in younger dogs, would be foreign body obstructions (ie. eating a toy that got lodged in his intestines and needs surgical removal). This can be checked for with x-rays to see if there is any obstruction in the intestines. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

What are distinctive symptoms from coccidia and parvo. My 9 week old puppies have diarrhea and one has bloody diarrhea (loose stool). They started off throwing up and had watery stool. I kept them hydrated and now their poop is thicker but not solid.
Coccidia symptoms include watery, mucousy diarrhea. explosive diarrhea that may eventually become bloody, lethargy and weakness, dehydration, abdominal discomfort and tenderness, vomiting., weight loss, and little or no appetite. The symptoms for parvo are very similar. In the picture your puppies still look pretty bright so this is a very good sign. Use unflavored Pedialyte or low sodium chicken broth to keep them hydrated. If they will eat, feed them small amounts of their regular puppy food, moistened with broth or Pedialyte to encourage them. If they continue to vomit though you may want to hold off on solid food as vomiting will dehydrate them faster and undo the good work you've been doing.

Parvo is always on the list. I would highly recommend a veterinarian as soon as possible since a puppy can get sick and decline quickly. They can also get dehydrated. It may also be intestinal parasites which can be zoonotic (which means you can get them) so washing your hands after picking up after her is important. Your veterinarian will test a stool sample and send home a bland diet, a dewormer and potentially antibiotics. Thank you for using Boop by Petco.

Hello and welcome to Boop by Petco. Parvovirus results in vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, weakness, and a weakened immune system. It often requires hospitalization to treat as the animals get very dehydrated very quickly, and often need medications to protect the gut, stop vomiting, and sometimes antibiotics if the immune system is weak. Other causes of vomiting/diarrhea include eating something silly that has caused a gastritis, being intolerant of current foods, stress, eating an object that is stuck in the gut, and other causes. Ideally I recommend that Jacob is seen by a vet to test for parvo and also do a blood test to check the immune system. If Jacob is drinking water and not vomiting and there is no blood then you can try getting him to eat. A bland diet of boiled/boneless/skinless chicken breast and boiled rice in small frequent meals is the best as it is easy for the gut to digest. If Jacob gets any more weak, stops eating/drinking, the diarrhea is bloody and severel
