Why is my young cockatiel fluffed, has diarrhea, and always sleeping?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Cockatiel | Male

I recently purchased a young cockatiels (old enough to be able to eat by itself and has feathers all over except for a little bald spot on the head) he is always fluffed up and has diarrhea but he is eating well and is very vocal. He also plays just a few times a day but is kind of always sleeping

Thanks for reaching out about Orpheus. It sounds as if he is sick and needs the attention of a veterinarian. Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give some support. Young baby birds might not be fully weaned and need to be feed assisted. Stress (moving to a new home, new people) can often revert baby birds to wanting to be fed. Contact the breeder if needed, for assistance. Good luck.
