Why is my dog chewing her red paws and has a red chest? What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Staffordshire Terrier | Female | spayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 75 lbs

My dog constantly chews all of her paws which made them all turn red. Her chest also periodically turns red but that comes randomly without her doing anything to cause it. I’ve noticed that whenever her chest turns red it’s usually after she’s been laying down with her back paws stretched under her chest for a while; however, the red chest doesn’t happen every time she lays like that. I’m just wondering what all this redness and chewing behavior might be and what solutions there are. Thank you!

Allergies or mange would be the most common causes and I would recommend a vet check to see what the underlying cause is. Treatment would be very different depending on the diagnosis and I would not recommend home remedies until after that as it my delay or complicate control
