Kitten found with cold & limp. How to get vet care without money?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | 4 lbs

Found a kitten on the highway, I don’t have money for the vet but it has a cold (sneezing, discharge from nose and eyes) but it still has a very healthy appetite. I’m wondering if there’s a way to tell if it’s the feline Herpesvirus or the Calicivirus (I think they’re called) it also has a limp on the back leg. (We think someone must have tossed her while driving) she’s about 2 months old at the most and very little. I want to keep her if I can, but if it’s a huge vet bill I have to re-home her

Unfortunately, if the kitten is ill and limping, she needs to be seen by a vet. It would be impossible to determine what exact virus is causing it without an exam, tests, and treatment from a professional. This would likely include bloodwork or X-rays to determine the illness and limp causes. If you're having trouble affording care, this site may help give you options, otherwise looking into a humane society that may be able to provide assistance or care is a good idea: https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/having-trouble-affording-veterinary-care
