Why won't my 10-month-old male Lab eat? Could it be hormones?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | 10 months and 11 days old

Hi doc, my lab of 10 months suddenly stopped eating in the morning for a couple days now. He also refuses to eat in the evening, however, mixing the kibble with a bit of peanut butter tempts him to eat. I can’t figure out this sudden change. His behavior seems normal, active and playful and he does respond on treats. Could you please give your advice?

This may be normal in an un-neutered male dog as his hormones are kicking in. I suggest you get some canned dog food to mix in with his dry food. Peanut butter is very high in fat and can cause pancreatitis. I suggest you try this first.
