My dog has smelly bleeding after heat. Should I worry about infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | English Bulldog | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 4 months old

Hi there. My 4 4 year old English bulldog had an emergency cesarean 8 months ago. She came off heat about 2 months ago, but has had light bleeding over the past 2 weeks continuously, which is really smelly! Should I be worried or is there anything I can do to help her?

Yes, you should be a bit worried about the smell. I suggest you get her to your vet for an exam. The smell may be an infection in the uterus (pyometra). If this does not get treated promptly and turns into a huge uterine infection she will have to be spayed to cure it. So, please, take her to your vet ASAP.
