Why is my dog's head bald spot bleeding and getting bigger?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Akita | Male | neutered | 1 year and 9 months old | 101.4 lbs

my dog had a bald spot on his head, then yesterday I checked and it had gotten bigger and there was a few specks of blood. Then today I checked again and it was only dry blood. I wanted to know like what caused it or something.

This looks like an injury that has some infection with it. I recommend cleaning the area with a warm damp cloth and massaging it to get any infection draining out. You can then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. If it isn’t improving, your dog seems sick or lethargic then certainly bring him in right away for a veterinary exam and treatment. I expect this to heal in a few days to a week. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to help you care for Blaze.
