My 1-year Lhasa Apso has soft stool. Is it serious or deworming?

Pet's info: Dog | Lhasa Apso | Male | unneutered | 2 lbs

Pixel is 1 year lhasa apso. He had soft stool once in the morning and once in evening ( when he poops normally) he is active, eating well. Weather has changed in India and suddenly it is really cold. Also, not to forget his time for deworming is just around the corner. What could be the reason? He is completely active. Shall I do his deworming? can it be parvo or tumor?

It could be Pixel just has an upset stomach, or may have eaten something off. Even if you gave him some human food, that could cause it. You can do his deworming. If he's vaccinated for parvo, it won't be parvo. A tumor is also unlikely.

Hello, sorry to hear about Axel. Other symptoms of Parvo include vomiting, decreased appetite, and lethargy. If he doesnt have these its very unlikely that he has parvo. Additionally, if he has been vaccinated already, then it is also less likely for him to get parvo. To fully rule this out he would need to be tested for parvo. More likely, the change in his diet is what is causing his soft stools. These should clear up within the next 3-5 days. Another possibility is that Axel has obtained some kind of parasite, in which its unlikely that his soft stools will resolve on their own. If Axel is not doing better in a few days, or if he is doing worse, then he should be seen by a veterinarian to have him tested for parvo and for other parasites. Best of luck and hope this helps!

My puppy is really active always. Today morning he passed loose stool with some red stone kinda thing in it. My vet said he has developed stomach infection because of eating his own poop and I need not worry about parvo as he does not have any fever.
Hi, has Pixel been treated for worms ? If not, he will need to be treated. To answer your question, feaces don’t look like typicical for Parvo. I would not worry about it but perhaps have his feaces checked for Giardia and other feacal parasites. Hope this helps !

My puppy is in the process of deworming this is his third day of deworming medicine, and also has 4 more days to finish his anemia medicine he had/has roundworms. I took him to the vet here where I stay and he tested negative for parvo, Ive been dewo
The stools can change rather frequently when there is something going on in his GI tract. The first picture looks like there may have been streaks of blood in it. If he is still having blood in his stool, I would have your vet recheck him. If it is just now a little soft/runny and he is eating and drinking and acting normally, then this is likely okay and most likely secondary to the dewormer. I would watch him closely. If he isn't improving, I would have your vet recheck him as well to ensure he isn't getting dehydrated and doesn't need any additional meds. You can also try giving him a little plain, sugar free yogurt for the probiotics. I hope this helps!

Hi there, I wouldn't be worried about one stool like this, but if it worsens or there is any vomiting, disinterest in food, or lethargy, that would warrant an emergency exam for a pup his age. Parvovirus is of serious concern if he is not fully vaccinated. If his stools remain soft but he is otherwise well, I'd recommend calling your regular veterinarian. They may recommend an exam or prescribe probiotics or a diet change if they have already seen Cliff. Puppies his age are generally dewormed every two weeks to eliminate all the life cycles of the most common parasites. I hope this is helpful. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco. The soft stool you describe could be related to his new home, change of food, and stress. If he is active and eating great, I am not terribly concerned about it yet. Try replacing some of his puppy food with plain cooked white rice to help settle his stomach. Once the diarrhea stops, slowly replace the rice with puppy food over 2-3 days. He may need a course of medication for the diarrhea or to switch his diet to something else for a while. Your vet should be able to help you with both of these. Over the counter pro-biotics like Purina Forti-Flora can also help puppies with diarrhea. In my opinion, if Mallows is active and eating well, he should ABSOLUTLEY be vaccinated on schedule, regardless of diarrhea. Parvo virus is a deadly killer of puppies, whereas whatever Mallows has going on is obviously not seriously afffecting his health at this time. Therefore the priority is to protect against parvo and figure out the diarrhea as we can. I hop

I gave my dogs deworm tablet then one of the vomit dog food the next few hours iys saliva and they dont want to eat. Im afraid that its a parvo
Unfortunately a reaction to the deworming tablet, parvovirus and other causes are all possible. I recommend to call Choco’s veterinarian. The doctor may recommend to examined Choco and check him for parvovirus to be safe. The veterinarian can also give him medication to make him feel better. I hope it’s nothing serious and that he starts feeling better quickly. Please feel free to post any additional questions.

We gave pixel medicine for deworming. Exactly ab hour after that he started vomiting continuously and did not drink or ear anything. After 2 hours he became active, had water and rice + yogurt . Are there chances if parvo? Pixel got his third vaccina
Hi again! It is good to hear Pixel became active again and starting eating after a couple hours. I would say if he doesn't continue to vomit or have diarrhea for the next 24 hours and his energy is good and all else is normal, then this is a good sign and may just be related to the deworming medication. If he continues to vomit and/or have diarrhea then there may be something else more serious going on and he should see his veterinarian soon. I hope this helps!

My dog was diagnosed with canine papilloma virus with a wart I found on his foot. Shortly after that appointment his stool became very loose. Is this in relation to his wart? Or something else?
The soft stool is likely unrelated to the wart. There are many causes for diarrhea. You can submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. If Zuko is not showing any other symptoms (vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain), you can try managing the soft stool with a 24 hour fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to his regular diet afterwards. Recheck with your veterinarian if Zuko's diarrhea persists or if he develops any of the above mentioned symptoms. A veterinary probiotic, such as ProStora, ProViable or FortiFlora, may promote a healthy gut.

My two month old shih tzu puppy had loose motion twice. Along with stool there was also water present in the stool. He recently started having puppy food and also ate a piece of paper. How should i take care of him?
Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Puppies frequently acquire roundworms from their mother or environment. The paper likely would not cause an issue unless it was a large quantity. Make sure he continues to eat and drink normally. A bland diet and/or a prescribed dewormer may firm up his stool. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting or persistent diarrhea.

Without examining her and knowing what she is eating, it is hard to know the cause of her problem. The soft stool could be from a parasite, infection, or her diet. Since she is so young, it would be a good idea to have your vet examine her to determine if there is a problem. Your vet can test a stool sample for parasites and then prescribe medications, if needed.
